A Review of New York Comic Con 2023

New York, New York, it’s a helluva town!
Hello everyone! I want to thank you for reading this incredible issue of Creative Cosplays Magazine! A LOT of talented folks put a lot of time and effort into this issue, and I’m honored to have a little piece of it to tell you about our time at New York Comic Con 2023.
I want to start by saying a HUGE thank you to Kyle and Chantel of Creative Cosplays Magazine, Cosplayer Extraordinaire J9 Lives, as well as Jason Keith, the lead show-runner of Cosplay World (Richmond, VA- June 15th & 16th, 2024- wink wink nudge nudge), for giving me the incredible opportunity to experience New York Comic Con.
I have had the great fortune to visit New York City on a number of occasions throughout my life. I’ve seen plays on Broadway, eaten at dozens of incredible restaurants, done several photoshoots, and experienced so much in New York City. However, NYCC had eluded me! Until this year! And, I have to say, NYCC is so much like NYC. There is something for everyone, and so much to do and see. Honestly, you cannot do NYCC in a day. You just can’t.
We had the amazing opportunity, thanks to the fine folks at ReedPop, to be placed in the River Pavilion. We were with so many other tremendous cosplay groups, makers, and companies. We were surrounded by so much incredible talent. It was a blessing and an honor, and we got to take pictures of so many cool costumes. We got to meet so many amazing folks, and heard so many different stories. With all that, we were able to feel the electricity of everyone’s passion. I know it sounds cliche, but it was truly a unique and special experience. Frankly, it’s hard to describe with plain words if I’m being candid with you, dear readers.
What was crazy is that for those of us in attendance (Myself, Kyle, J9, and Jason), we each slipped away for a time to experience a different part of the show. And we each came back with a different, yet amazing, story to tell. There’s some kind of magic about New York Comic Con, y’all, and I can only hope that what we show you here in this issue gets SOME of what we saw and felt in person across.
’Til next time,
Corwyn (@mindfallmedia)
